Open Data Hub Terms and Conditions of Use

You must accept the following Terms and Conditions in order to be granted access to the Open Data Hub.

Use of the Transport for the North Open Data Hub is governed by the following terms and conditions (“Terms and Conditions”). Your use of the Open Data Hub constitutes acceptance of these Terms and Conditions and your agreement to be bound by these Terms and Conditions.

In order to access the data available via the Open Data Hub you are required to register and provide the following details:

  • Your name and contact email address
  • Your organisation name
  • Your organisation address

Transport for the North (“we”, “us” and “our”) will manage any personal data you provide on registration under our Privacy Policy as we collect information about you in accordance with this policy. You are responsible for making sure that any contact details provided are accurate and kept up to date to ensure that we can keep in communication with you regarding your use of the Open Data Hub.

We may at any time revise these Terms and Conditions. It is up to you to regularly review the Terms and Conditions for any changes as your continued use is treated as acceptance of the changes. We may also change or remove content at any time without notice.

We may transfer our rights and obligations under these Terms and Conditions to another organisation. These Terms and Conditions will be updated to inform you of any transfer if this happens.

Licence Arrangements

Unless otherwise specified, data provided via the Open Data Hub is available for your use under the Terms of the Open Government Licence version 3.0 (“OGL v3.0”) which should be read in conjunction with these Terms and Conditions:

Where any data is copied, published, distributed, transmitted, adapted, or exploited under the terms of the OGL v3.0, users must acknowledge Transport for the North as the source of the information by including the following attribution statement: “Source: Powered by Transport for the North”.

Information or data derived from or containing copyright material provided by third parties, such as map data, must contain the appropriate copyright attribution statement relevant to the specific copyright owner.

Access Arrangements

By accessing the Open Data Hub, you are agreeing to do so only for lawful purposes. You must also use it in a way that does not infringe the rights of or restrict or inhibit the use and enjoyment of this site by anyone else.

We reserve the right to limit access to feeds if usage is affecting the performance of the Service. We also reserve the right to block/suspend access to data feeds if a user appears to be in breach of these Terms and Conditions and/or the terms of the licence(s) under which the data is made available.

We reserve the right to change these Terms and Conditions and/or the licence(s) under which data is made available at any time. It is the responsibility of users to regularly review the licence, which will be available on this portal. Continued use of the APIs available via the Open Data Hub after any changes to these Terms and Conditions and/or the licence(s) under which data is made available will be taken as acceptance of these changes.


We do not guarantee or provide warranties about the accuracy or completeness of any content and is not liable for any loss or damage that may come from your use of the Open Data Hub. Content can be reproduced as long as the licence terms and conditions (as above) are followed.

We make every effort to check the Open Data Hub for viruses on a regular basis but we are not responsible for any loss, disruption or damage to your data or computer system that might happen when you use the Open Data Hub. You must make sure that the way you use of the Open Data Hub does not expose you to the risk of viruses, malicious computer code or other forms of interference which can damage your computer system.

We are not liable if it fails to comply with these Terms and Conditions because of circumstances beyond our reasonable control.

Misuse of the Open Data Hub

When using the Open Data Hub, you must not introduce viruses, trojans, worms, logic bombs or any other material that’s malicious or technologically harmful, and you must not try to gain unauthorised access to the Open Data Hub, the server on which it’s stored or any server, computer or database connected to it.

Governing Law

The Open Government Licence and these Terms and Conditions are governed by the laws of England and Wales.


We do not exclude or limit in any way our liability to you where it would be unlawful to do so. This includes liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence or the negligence of our employees, agents or subcontractors and for fraud or fraudulent misrepresentation.

We exclude all implied conditions, warranties, representations or other terms that may apply to the Open Data Hub or any content on it.

We will not be liable to you for any loss or damage, whether in contract, tort (including negligence), breach of statutory duty, or otherwise, even if foreseeable, arising under or in connection with use of, or inability to use, the Open Data Hub, or use of or reliance on any content displayed on the Open Data Hub.

We might decide not to exercise or enforce any right available to us under these Terms and Conditions. We can always decide to exercise or enforce that right at a later date.

If any of these Terms and Conditions are held to be invalid, unenforceable or illegal for any reason, the remaining Terms and Conditions will still apply.
